23. Big Bend 国立公園へ向かう

クリスマス休暇になるのを待ちわびてBig Bend 国立公園へ向けて出発しました。 Big Bend 国立公園はテキサス州の西部南端に位置したメキシコとの国境沿いにある公園です。

州間高速道路のI−１０を東に向けてVan Hornという小さな町から今度は90号線を南に向かって走りました。

途中にMarfaという町がありますが、その昔、ジェームス・ディーンの映画、「エデンの東」？か何かのロケがその近くの牧場で行われたということでした。

以前にMarfa まではきたことがありましたが、そこから先は未知の世界でした。Marfa から今度は67号線を右折しさらに南のPresidioという町に向かいました。
もうそのあたりは本当に何もなく、荒野でした。その後、トラックの調子がいまひとつでオーバーヒートしがちでしたが、そんなところで車がエンコでもしようものならえらいことでした。

Presidioから先はリオグランデ川沿いの道になり、右手にリオグランデを見ながらのドライブでした。リオグランデ川の南側はメキシコになります。このあたりのリオグランデは川幅も上流に比べるとやや狭い感じでした。
